Contrail is proud to serve the needs of our Armed Forces. Creating a new opportunity to use U.S.-flag commercial containerships for defense cargoes, Contrail opens up substantial new shipping capacity and flexibility for deployment, redeployment, retrograde depot maintenance and logistical support needs. A big challenge for the U.S. military is moving vehicles to and from the theater of operation in a fast and cost-effective manner. With the use of Contrails, the U.S. military can expand its use of commercial containerships and gain access to more sailings to more destinations. Contrail delivers unparalleled capacity and flexibility to strategically move cargo wherever in the world and whenever it’s needed. Where conventional RO-RO ships can’t go, Contrail travels to hub ports for transload onto smaller container feeder vessels to move vehicles and equipment to outlying ports with shallow drafts. Feeder vessels with on-board cranes or under-developed ports with a single gantry crane can handle Contrail. Now the Department of Defense can improve adherence to the “Commercial First” imperative of the U.S. National Security Sealift policy by maximizing use of commercial U.S. flag capacity.
